News For 2010-09-09
"Wizard of Oz" hits Blu-Ray on Tuesday. It's only available in most outlets as a collector's edition set for $75, which is ludicrous. That said, Target (and maybe Wal-Mart) look to have exclusives on Blu-Ray versions WITHOUT all the extra junk, thus making the price only $30.
Of course, I can't really afford it right now (either the collector's set or the stand-alone two-disc from Target). As such, any donations for the rest of this month will probably go towards that Blu-Ray. Which seems somewhat appropriate given the nature of the comic itself.
I'm rather excited about the Blu-Ray, all told, though not just for a pristine HD version of the film. They're finally releasing the 1990 TV movie "The Dreamer of Oz" staring John Ritter as Baum. It's a lovely little film. I'm almost more stoked about that than I am about the feature presentation!
(And yes, I'm an Oz nerd that DOESN'T hate the MGM movie. Changes to the source material be damned, it's just a nearly perfect motion picture. So THPPPT. Here's hoping enough donations come through for me to be in HD Technicolor bliss.)
