OMG TEH DRAMA~!
Clearly, I'm independent now. I'd rather not get into the details about why, but curious souls can read this for some details on the matter. Needless to say, I was right, they were wrong, but I'm happy to be indie now anyway. Most of my friends in the webcomic business have made their success independently, and it's their opinion that being with... that company... has done me more harm than good. My illustrious peers say that being forced to go indie is the best thing that's ever happened to me, and I think I'm beginning to agree with them.
You've already noticed some changes, I'm sure. That butt-ugly header bar is gone, as is the newsbox. The comic is located on its own server now, which is fun. I've never had total control of my web sites before. The comic is running on a system called Walrus_PHP, and its totally awesome. That said, because it doesn't generate static HTML pages, I can no longer use my beloved Disqus comments.
I know its not quite as easy and quick to use, but I've installed a phpBB discussion forum for all your commenting needs. Feel free to comment on anything and everything (related to the comic) there. If you'd like to comment on a specific page and no one else has started a thread for it yet, feel free to do so yourself. The fate of my sad little forum is in your hands. There was a number of you commenting on a regular basis before, and I'd hate to lose your feedback.
One other thing that I've lost in my transition to independence is the RSS feed. It was never much of a feed to begin with, but many still found it useful. Rest assured that I'm currently trying to figure out how to make an RSS feed of my own, and I'll have it up and running as soon as humanly possible.
You may also have noticed that ALL of my domains are currently pointing to DS. I'll get my old comics up again eventually (particularly Flat Feet and Sporkman; the REALLY old stuff may take a while to reappear). It was just easier to redirect all my traffic to this one website for the time being, so I could take my time in setting up new sites for everything else.
In the wake of all this... stuff... I'm clearly pretty busy. Your donations and support have never been more needed than they are right now. If you haven't already donated, feel free to click the "donate" button next to the comic. For those of you who have already donated, expect your goodies (the exclusive short story) to arrive sometime next month. With this napalm of drama and my continued unemployment, anything and everything you might be able to drop into my hat would be appreciated more than I can put into words.
Of course, the greatest donation of all is to simply TELL OTHER PEOPLE ABOUT THE COMIC. If you really enjoy what I'm producing here, shout it from the rooftops. More people means more ad revenue, but also means more personal satisfaction on my end. So spread the love, and enjoy this bold new era of my career, now with 98% more indie street cred!
